Bluebird House which opened in January 2008 is the first purpose built secure adolescent NHS unit in the south of England.

Bluebird House is part of a national network of secure forensic mental health services for young people. It has transformed access to this kind of service to young people and their families from across the south, who currently have to travel to London, Birmingham, Manchester or Newcastle.

Bluebird House is commissioned by the National Commissioning Group (NCG), which was established to commission services on a national basis for specific patient groups. Most services commissioned by the NCG relate to conditions with a national caseload of fewer than 400 people.

Bluebird House is a 20 bed unit which features a purpose built Learning and Therapy Centre along with recreational and snoezelen rooms as well as a sports hall, fitness suite and outdoor sports area. Young people admitted to Bluebird House will be able to access a range of services within the unit, including nursing and psychological input as well as occupational therapy, family therapy, education and social work. Education is provided by Totton College.

Bluebird House is located on the edge of the New Forest within a tranquil woodland setting and is easily accessed by the M27 and M3 motorways.
