Required for September 2021, we seek to appoint a candidate who will possess energy, organisation and enthusiasm and holds the belief that through strong inclusive pastoral care schools can both keep children safe, help them overcome barriers to gain great outcomes and enhance their life chances. Only when this happens can we realise our aim of raising achievement and creating a truly outstanding environment for teaching and learning for all students. A commitment to safeguarding and a ‘can-do’ attitude that will engage students, staff and the wider community are essential.
This is a non-teaching post; the successful candidate may have a background in working with young people, but we will consider applicants who have experience in a caring role and we appreciate that each applicant will come with their own strengths. The position is to start from September.
The role has a significant focus supporting students with their physical needs though will also involve supporting young people with varying Special Educational Needs. Hetton is proud to support secondary age students with Speech, Language and Communication Needs in its resourced provision. The school also has a Gold Standard Charter Mark acknowledging its support of young people with autism. The ability to engage with young people who face barriers to their learning is essential.
Hetton School is an expanding 11-16 mixed comprehensive school on the south east outskirts of Sunderland and close to Durham. The school is a vibrant community, rich in extra-curricular experiences, including Cricket, Girl’s Football and Rugby Academies. Judged ‘Requires Improvement’ in its last inspection in January 2018, the school has made huge strides in the last three years. The school moved into a brand-new building in September 2016.
As a school we believe in cultivating a growth Mindset in young people. By developing their resilience, love of learning and by finding inspiration in the success of others, they learn to embrace challenge and aspire to successful careers in a wide variety of areas. We are enormously proud of the wider curriculum, pastoral care, and safe environment we offer to our students.
We promise you high challenge and support, genuine teamwork, and responsibility. Hetton School is an attractive proposition for someone wishing to come and make their mark and to join our journey of improvement.
