Job overview

We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to work in our Supported Internship Programme in Telford. This role is a full time (37.5 hours per week). We support adults with a learning disability living in the Staffordshire area, to access volunteering and paid work.

We deliver relaxed classroom-based sessions to young people with a learning disability, aged between 16 and 25, to prepare them for work, and support them to improve their numeracy and literacy skills.

Along with Mencap staff and other volunteers, the Learning Support Assistant will be supporting people on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

Key Responsibilities for a Learning Support Assistant 

To support with the planning and organising of learning activities for learners

To differentiate learning materials to an appropriate level according to need in line with individuals Education, Health and Care Plans and learning needs

Under the guidance of the tutor, contribute to setting challenging and meaningful individual targets to promote self-esteem and independence and to the review of those targets

To monitor the progress of identified learners, keep written records and provide the tutor with feedback on learners’ progress

To assist in the production of appropriate teaching materials

The Learning Support Assistant will be enthusiastic, motivated and work to keep learners engaged in sessions. The ability to build a strong, positive relationship with others is an important part of the role.
