OLA is an independent, Catholic, coeducational day school located just outside Oxford  which welcomes staff and pupils of all faiths and none. We excel in providing a warm, supportive atmosphere in which exceptional pastoral care and an innovative, inclusive culture underpin all that we do.  

A reliable, conscientious, and empathetic person is required to assist the School’s Learning Support Department in this term-time only position. Working alongside, and reporting to the SENDCo, duties will include assessing pupils for access arrangements and supporting SEND learners. The ideal candidate will enjoy working as part of a small, collaborative team whilst having responsibility for their own area of work. Safeguarding, mental health and other appropriate training will be provided. 

This will be a varied and rewarding role with duties including but not limited to:

• Assessing the needs of pupils with SpLD/LDD, to plan and facilitate appropriate support, including support for learners with multiple and complex learning difficulties / physical disabilities / sensory impairments / medical needs.

• Screening students for Access Arrangements, ensure pupils have the correct Access Arrangements and organise the Access Arrangements for all internal and external assessments.

The successful candidate will take up post from September 2022. Full-time working hours are 8.30am to 4.30pm, term-time only.

The ideal candidate:

Post Graduate (level 7) Qualification in Specific Learning Difficulties and/or SEN, including at least 100 hours relating to individual specialist assessment 

AND/OR 

A specialist assessor with a current SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate, as awarded by BDA, the Dyslexia Guild or Patoss and listed on the SASC website

Experience working with children and young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) (SEMH, ASD, ADHD, PDA, ADD, ODD)

Experience of assessing and teaching students with a wide range of learning difficulties and disabilities, including those with complex / multiple needs.

Able to work independently while being part of a team

Professional, proactive, with a 'can-do' attitude

Good, general IT skills (using Outlook and the school database iSAMS)

Flexibility in adapting to changing requirements

 Excellent communication skills to deal with pupils, staff and external agencies

Patient, friendly and approachable

Understanding and supportive of the School's ethos
