Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced primary teacher to join the inclusion team at The Oxford Academy to lead on the development of the enhanced pathway provision. The enhanced pathway has been developed in partnership with OCC and aims to meet the needs of children and young people in TOA’s community within the setting of their local school.

The Learning Support Teacher will be the lead teacher for the enhanced pathway, providing bespoke teaching and support for ten students with SEND as they transition from primary to secondary school. They will be responsible for devising a scaffolded curriculum for students accessing the provision, enabling their access to a broad and balanced curriculum in a specialist classroom. We are seeking an experienced primary teacher because the children and young people accessing this provision will be working below age-related expectations - a strong understanding of the primary curriculum and strategies to support foundational literacy and numeracy skills is essential for the role. The post-holder will work closely with the Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion to ensure the students accessing the support of the enhanced pathway have a successful start to secondary school.

The intended pathway for students accessing the enhanced pathway provision is:

In Year 7, students accessing the enhanced pathway will attend mainstream English and Maths lessons alongside their peers, with all other areas of the curriculum and interventions delivered in the specialist classroom. The enhanced pathway staffing will be the Learning Support Teacher and a full-time HLTA.

As the cohort moves to Year 8, key lessons will be identified by students and staff and a strengths-based timetable will be built for each student. A second teacher will be employed to support this cohort within the enhanced pathway and in mainstream lessons. Over the course of the school year, students will increase their time in mainstream lessons to at least 50%.

As the cohort moves to Year 9, in year 3 of the programme, the students should be accessing all areas of the curriculum in mainstream lessons. The enhanced pathway will become a 'base' students can access - a familiar, safe place to regulate, access pre-teaching and/or homework support.

We are keen to hear from candidates looking for a permanent role or those interested in a one-year secondment to gain teaching experience in a secondary setting.

A £2,500 Recruitment Incentive payment for successful candidates applying directly to RLT for this role, is payable after a qualifying period of two full terms in this role.  This includes a 2-year retention period.  Please see our attached information sheet for more details.
