| Description | The Learning Support Teacher will have responsibility for supporting the Learning Support Coordinator in the management of special needs focus programs, inclusive of gifted and talented, assistance to teachers with curriculum differentiation, supervision of support personnel as appropriate; and be able to assist schools in their professional development needs. The Learning Support Teacher is responsible to the Principal. |

| Position Requirements | • A relevant understanding of the philosophy of Catholic Education; • The Learning Support Teacher works under the direction of the Learning Support Coordinator; • Assisting with the initial identification of students with special educational needs; • Working collaboratively with the principal, learning support coordinator, class teachers, parents and students to develop appropriate assessment strategies, identify resources and implement effective strategies to create learning and social opportunities for students with special education needs; • Liaising with the relevant schools particularly in relation to transition periods; • Collaboratively designing, implementing, modifying and evaluating individual Personalised Plans (PPs) with class teachers and other relevant people; • Working collaboratively with other learning support personnel; • Contributing to the preparation of documentation required under legislation in line with privacy and confidentiality obligations, for example, student files; • Assisting in the preparation of funding submissions; • Contributing to the provision of staff professional development and parent education programs. |

| Essential Criteria | The applicant should: • have the appropriate experience and/or qualifications in Special Education; • have teaching qualifications and experience in a Secondary School; • be appropriately qualified as a four year trained teacher; • record current NESA and Working With Children number on application; • applicants will need to comply with the Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead (formerly FEA) and will need to work towards Accreditation at Category B – Accreditation to teach. Note: To start or return to working as a teacher in a NSW school, you must be accredited by NESA. |

St Paul’s High School is a co-educational, non-selective, Roman Catholic, independent day school serving students from Years 7 to 12. The secondary school is located in Booragul, Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, and has approximately 950 pupils on its roll.
Established by the Catholic Church Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle in 1984, the school was upgraded over the past decade with new buildings. Students are mainly taken from six nearby Catholic primary schools as well as from local government schools.

St Paul’s High School has four seminar rooms, a computer room, a science laboratory, multi-purpose hall, two music rooms and IT facilities in every classroom. The school recently built a commercial-quality kitchen and workshops for construction classes. In 2015 it opened a new library and technology hub, along with seven new classrooms.
Curriculum
The school teaches pupils in all secondary years but has a particular focus on the final two senior years. It has a gifted and talented coordinator who promotes activities including mock trials, public speaking, engineering challenges and competitions in writing, maths and science. Students are offered language classes and cultural experiences in Japanese and French. The school hosts two visual art shows each year as well as concert band performances and music and drama nights. Students are offered a range of sporting activities including surfing and walking on top of more traditional sports.

St Paul's High School aims to provide a welcoming environment where students can develop their skills to the best of their abilities.
