Taunton School is over 170 years old and is an Independent School educating approximately 1200 boys and girls aged 0-18 (around 400 boarders) on one impressive site. We aim to challenge, inspire and nurture young people to succeed in a global community. We have a vibrant Preparatory School (Years 3 to 8) of some 290 pupils with another 230 pupils in the Pre-Prep and Nursery.

We are seeking an outstanding individual to fill the role of Part time Learning Support Teacher for our Prep School from January 2020. The Learning Support Teacher will plan and deliver an individualised programme for pupils with Numeracy and Literacy difficulties including SpLD using a multi-sensory approach and support and monitor students’ progress in their day-to-day learning.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a thriving and happy Prep School. The successful applicant will maintain and develop further the excellence of the Educational Progress Department for our current pupils and be enthusiastic to adopt innovative teaching and learning techniques. 

The post holder will have some or all of the following:- 

• Qualified teacher status

• Experience in teaching students with Special Educational Needs, including Dyslexia.

• A recognised and significant qualification in teaching pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties, or a willingness to gain such a qualification.

“The quality of pupils’ overall achievement is good, with many outstanding features. The school is very successful in preparing pupils to shape the world in the 21st century, in line with its ambitious aim. Throughout the school pupils display good, and frequently, excellent levels of understanding, knowledge and skills across all their subjects and activities. Overall, results in public examinations are good in relation to pupils’ abilities, indicating that their progress across the school is above the average for pupils of similar ability, and frequently rapid. Pupils with SEND or EAL progress well because of the support they receive.”
