Job overview

The English, Maths and Employability Team at Carshalton & Merton Colleges, part of the South Thames Colleges Group, is now looking to appoint a Lecturer in English.


The focus of this role is to teach a combination of GCSE English Language and English Functional Skills, predominantly to students aged 16-19 years of age. It will include preparing students for June exams, marking homework and mock exams, providing constructive feedback, setting targets for students, monitoring attendance and student progress, and where appropriate, curriculum development.


As our Lecturer in English, we’d like you to hold a degree or relevant professional qualification in an appropriate subject and have excellent teaching skills in GCSE English and/or Functional Skills English. You’ll have high personal standards and expectations, have an awareness of academic quality standards and be able to support, motivate and empathise with learners, including monitoring their progress.

Carshalton College is a co-educational further education college based in Sutton. It is a non-denominational school.

The college has been an education provider for over 60 years. It is a major provider of full-time, part-time, apprenticeships, access, undergraduate and supported learning courses. 

The college is situated in an environment surrounded by parks and ponds, but within a proximity of the towns of Sutton and Croydon. It is accessible from all areas of south London and its transport links also allow its students to be in the centre of London within 30 minutes.
