Job overview

We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic lecturer in Engineering, for a fixed term period (4th January to 9th July) to deliver on a range of courses including:

  • Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations
  • Engineering Technician and
  • OAL Level 3 in Engineering.

We would ideally like someone with experience of delivering these courses and who has been in Further Education for a period of time.

However, on this occasion we are also interested in applications from NQTs and from experienced engineers who may have been in a training, mentoring or assessing  capacity (and qualification) within their workplace.  It will be important that the workplace includes both experience of mechanical and electrical engineering.

Based at Selby College, a modern campus college, which provides education and training opportunities for students aged 14 right up to 70+.  Learners from all over Yorkshire and the Humber travel to Selby College because of its reputation for high-quality education. Providing a wealth of courses and clear progression routes, Selby College offers A Levels, Vocational courses, Apprenticeships, Higher Education, Adult Learning and Professional Courses for Employers. We are proud to have some of the best facilities and teaching and support staff at Selby College, which allows us to support students in achieving their goals and progress to their desired career or further study.

The Role:

We are looking, ideally, for an experienced lecturer to step into our engineering team and deliver to our students with passion and enthusiasm a range of engineering related subjects.  However we will be interested in enthusiastic practitioners from within the workplace, who may be interested in a career change and NQTs.

The role requires the planning, preparing, teaching and assessment of set work.  It also requires you to monitor, review and evaluate student progress, taking appropriate action.

This will include mechanical engineering, maintenance and some elements of electrical engineering.

Our students are both full time and part time.  They include a number of apprentices who come to the college on either day or block release.

The Person

Ideally we would want a qualified and experienced lecturer with experience of Further Education and the awarding body EAL.  However, we are prepared to work with someone with the right background and industry experience who would be willing to work towards a teaching qualification.

Either way, it is essential that you have a minimum level 3 qualification in engineering (mechanical or electrical).

If you have an assessor qualification that will be a bonus.

A Certificate in Education or a Post Graduate Certificate in Education is desirable.

Our apprentices are from a range of industries but experience in a food and drink environment will be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be organised and diligent, ensuring that work is completed to standard and to deadline.  They will be able to work well within a small team and will have excellent communication skills.  Administration skills will be advanced, not basic.

Terms and Conditions

This is advertised as a fixed term position from 4th January to 9th July 2020.

Working hours are 37 per week, Monday to Friday

The salary range is £23 107 for someone starting out on their career, to £33 353, for a very experienced candidate meeting all of our criteria and more.

Closing Date: 13th November 2020

Interview date: 23rd November 2020

All work in the College involves some degree of responsibility for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, although the extent of that responsibility will vary according to the nature of the role. A disclosure and barring check will be required for this role.
