Job overview

We are one of the highest performing colleges nationally on all courses at all levels, rated Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ and a TEF Gold provider.

Truro and Penwith College Business seek an experienced lecturer of Maths and English to teach intensive Functional Skills courses, primarily to apprentices. We are looking for a vibrant and committed lecturer with the ability to inspire students and maintain excellent working relationships in a very successful Business and Professional team. A willingness to support students pastorally is essential, as is knowledge of current vocational developments in post-16 education.

The successful applicant will design, develop and deliver Functional Skills courses, at levels 1 and 2, in English and Maths for apprentices across the college’s range of vocational areas. Experience of delivering intensive English and Maths courses for apprenticeship programmes is highly desirable.

You will be joining a successful team, engaging with a variety of apprentices and colleagues across the college’s wide range of vocational areas. You may also have the opportunity to engage with local businesses to provide training and development solutions, as well as delivering Maths and English courses to the wider community.

The successful applicant will join the Functional Skills delivery team based in Haven House, which is situated in the centre of Truro (with the expectation of teaching at Penwith on occasion).

Due to the nature of apprenticeships, a highly flexible, learner focussed approach with a strong commitment to supporting individual students to progress is crucial. An interest or experience in delivering English to students with English as a second language would be an advantage.

We are looking for someone who works with confidence with a wide variety of ability levels, who is a committed team member and who projects an enthusiasm for this subject.

Applicants should hold a degree or similar professional qualifications and a recognised teaching qualification. As well as teaching, the successful candidate will also have responsibility for a tutor group.

We offer a generous package with benefits including 40 days annual leave plus bank holidays and College closure days, teacher pension scheme, relocation package, free on-site parking and a variety of on-site benefits and discounts.

Closing date: 12 Noon, Thursday 24 June 2021

Interviews will take place week commencing 28 June 2021

Curriculum Vitae are not accepted, Application Forms only.

Successful candidates will be notified within 4 weeks of the closing date.
