Job overview

School of Education

Full time position working 37 hours per week (1.0 FTE)

Join a friendly and highly motivated staff team delivering an expanding range of education programmes. The University of Hertfordshire has a strong track record in quality in ITE and a commitment to meeting the needs of students and school partners through undergraduate, post-graduate and School Direct programmes. We see professional learning as a career-long commitment and offer professional development and research programmes for qualified teachers.

The School needs a knowledgeable Primary English specialist to join our existing Initial Teacher Education (ITE) team, where work is changing to include delivery of teaching with a range of school based and other partners. You will have the subject knowledge and professional expertise to provide inspiring input to students on ITE and other relevant programmes. You will have a strong understanding of current issues in primary English teaching and evidence of outstanding practice and a personal commitment to learning and teaching.

You will be a qualified, experienced primary teacher with expertise in primary English. You will have expertise in the teaching of phonics: an interest in Early Years or SEND would be an advantage. You will be able to demonstrate excellent practice, including evidence of leading the learning of adults. You may either currently be in school or be engaged in initial teacher education at a Higher Education establishment. You will have an interest in research and scholarship and will either already hold a higher degree or be willing to work towards one.

The post is based at the de Havilland Campus, Hatfield.

The University offers a range of benefits including a guaranteed pension, professional development, family friendly policies and discounted memberships at the Hertfordshire Sports Village.

For an informal discussion please contact Sal Jarvis, Dean of School, on 01707 285675.
