The Institute for Education will provide a focus for research and developments in Teacher Education and is currently hosting major research projects at the centre of education debates about what teaching in the 21st century should become.
About the role
Computer Science is an established PGCE course at Bath Spa University. For 2017-2018 we are expanding our courses offered to include a core Business Studies course. We recruit groups of students with a range of experience and specialist skills and knowledge. This post holder will manage and lead the Computer Science and Business Studies programmes for Bath Spa teachers (trainees), including School Direct trainees, on the specialist route, combining this with academic tutor responsibilities. The post holder will also deliver subject knowledge and pedagogy, particularly in the area of Computer Science and Business Studies but may also contribute to the teaching of Bath Spa Teachers from other disciplines where appropriate. Other responsibilities include a contribution to our professional studies work exploring a range of whole school issues pertinent to teacher trainees. The post holder will be fully supported by the Programme Leaders who manage the operation of the wider Secondary PGCE programme. Job sharing will be considered for this post
The role includes moderation visits during school training, involving an element of Quality Assurance of training mentors as well as support for the Bath Spa Teachers, ensuring that they get the best opportunities to become excellent teachers. The post holder will also have the chance to develop their own research interests in the area of teacher education.
About you (requirements)
You will have QTS, an appropriate degree and recent experience of working in a school or other educational provider is essential. You need to have extensive experience of Secondary school Computer Science and/or Business Studies in terms of the school curriculum and the linked pedagogies relating to the 11-18 age phase. You will have experience of developing curriculum and managing resources in your subject specialism. You will also have knowledge and understanding of wider generic issues in education and of the changing landscape of Teacher Education
