The Department of Education Studies is one of the larger departments within the university, providing courses for around 600 undergraduate students across a range of innovative programmes. Within the Department of Postgraduate Programmes, the MA in Education is a taught course which is flexible and modular, with specialist pathways and opportunities for students to engage in practitioner research.

About the role

In this academic post you will be teaching existing modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in Education Studies and may be required to supervise students undertaking higher degrees. You will also contribute to the design and delivery of revised and new modules as we go through an exciting period of curriculum review and development. You will join a programme that provides students with an understanding of inclusive and just education processes, an international perspective and a belief that education can contribute to a fairer society. We will support you in developing your teaching, research and publication profile, enable you to build internal and external networks and seek access to external funding.

About you (requirements)

For this position we need you to be a flexible team player, open to new ideas and interested in new challenges. You will be someone who shares our values and commitment to social justice and student-centred teaching and learning. You will have a first and higher degree and have or be working towards a PhD. You will have experience of teaching in a university environment, have specialist knowledge in the Sociology of Education and have experience of research in this field. If not already a fellow of the Higher Education Academy you will be required to apply for it during your probationary period.

Your expertise and knowledge will complement the existing team and you will be required to teach on core modules across our education studies programme. We are particularly interested in applications from colleagues who can contribute to our sociology of education modules, for example through the perspectives of gender.sp
