About the role

The role-holder for this position will be responsible for contributing to the teaching and curriculum development of primary education in initial teacher education programmes, including primary science. The successful applicant will be involved in helping with the organisation of the curriculum and day-to day management of courses. This will include planning, teaching and assessing science subject knowledge and pedagogy and understanding new developments in primary and early years science.

The role-holder will be expected to make an active contribution to the developments associated with the changing context of teacher education and school partnerships such as Teach First, School Direct and Troops to Teachers and contribute to professional studies work within the ITE programmes. There will also be opportunities to make some contribution to the undergraduate Education Studies course.

About you (requirements)

With Qualified Teacher Status and a relevant higher degree, you will have recent experience of successfully teaching in the primary and early years phase, especially in science, as well as knowledge of primary teaching and learning methods.

Experience of working within higher education would be desirable. You should be a proactive self-starter, with excellent communication skills, a collaborative and enthusiastic approach to your work and be a committed team player. An ambition to develop a research and publication profile is also essential. Knowledge of government policies in relation to teacher education including new developments in primary and early years science, and the changing context of teacher education is also required as is an ability to adapts to rapid change and work with partners in delivering teacher education. An ability to contribute to masters course in teacher education and international initiatives is also required.
