Working pattern: Term time only, (45 weeks), 37.5 hours


Role Summary

Seashell is one of only a few charities in the Northwest focussing on enhancing the lives of young people with very complex needs. This sets the school apart from other provision as we deliver high quality education and care to meet the needs of children and young people who need highly specialist expertise and resources.

Our site is part way through an amazing transformation with state-of-the-art facilities being developed. Following the construction of a residential village of 17 care homes in 2015 and our world class school that opened in February 2023, we are embarking on the next phase of our development with a new college and inclusive sports and wellbeing facilities, set to be delivered in 2025/26.

About Royal School Manchester at Seashell:

Royal School Manchester at Seashell is a non-maintained special day and residential school for children and young people aged 2 to 19 with severe, profound and complex learning difficulties and disabilities, sensory impairments, communication disorders and autism.

Our highly skilled team of teaching & support staff include specialist teachers and TAs who work closely with a full team of therapists and our residential care services to deliver high quality personalised learning and support based on the needs and preferences of the student. Our “outstanding” Ofsted rating highlights that the school team put no limits on what can be achieved and as a result pupils make exceptional progress.


About the role:

It’s an exciting time to join us as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant as we continue to grow and we are looking for 2x Level 3 Teaching Assistants to join our team .

You will work with our amazing students across EYFS / secondary / post 16 areas and will be an essential part of the team assisting the class teacher and wider team in delivering lessons & supporting students. You will be part of our children’s learning journey creating a safe and supported environment for them to flourish in their education and equipping them with lifelong learning skills.


What you'll be doing:

  • Support an individual class Teacher in preparing individual programmes and learning materials appropriate to the needs of the learners
  • Prepare the classroom, activities and resources for lessons
  • Support the class Teacher with the co-ordination and planning of staff
  • Support the delivery of individual student programmes and learning interventions
  • Encourage and support good classroom behaviour and supervision of children in the classroom, during structured activities and off-site activities
  • Understand the communication and support needs of individual students to enable and facilitate their learning
  • Support student in their lunchtime and break times to ensure children are safe and happy
  • Support off site activities as needed such as trips or forest school
  • Support and record the amazing progress of our children
  • Communicate on a daily basis with other colleagues, parents and transport providers to give clear and detailed updates on all aspects of the students at drop off and pick up


What you'll need:

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant certification (essential)
  • Ability and commitment to work as part of a supportive and cohesive team
  • Ability to contribute, follow and evaluate educational programmes set by the teacher
  • Ability to co-ordinate, supervise and support staff activities
  • Experience working within a SEND educational setting highly preferred
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • Energetic and enthusiastic about SEND education and making a difference to the lives of our children
