Liaison Officer for the Governing Body of Oaklands School and Executive Board of Great Oaks College 

Oaklands is a thriving special school based in Isleworth and serving the London Borough of Hounslow. Oaklands pupils aged 11 – 19, have severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple difficulties and autism.   

Oaklands is at an exciting point in its development; we are currently working towards expansion and full school relocation to a purpose built new school in Hounslow for September 2018. The schools will be based on two sites and will consist of a new primary school (New Oaks) opening in Sep 2019; the current secondary school (High Oaks) and a new Post 19 Great Oaks college (opening September 2018).  

We are seeking to appoint a liaison officer to work with and fully support our Governing Body and the college’s Executive Board.  The liaison officer will be central to the smooth running of both the Governing Body and the Executive Board; preparing agendas, taking and distributing minutes, offering administrative support, keeping records and giving procedural and legislative advice.   

The successful applicant will have excellent organisation, communication and ICT skills, as well as an ability to take accurate minutes at meetings. To help the successful applicant fulfil their role we expect them to attend relevant training events and briefings. Full details of the role and our expectations are given on the attached job description.  The liaison officer is expected to attend the termly full governing body/executive board meetings currently held during the evening and all committee meetings (up to 4 per term) which are usually held in the morning, however other hours could be worked flexibly and from home to fit around other commitments.

Upon completing their apprenticeship, our staff can progress onto LSA or TA roles.  

We offer teacher training sponsorship and are currently sponsoring 4 of our TA’s through teacher training, 3 of whom started their career at Oaklands on our teaching assistant apprenticeship.  

We would like to offer work experience placements to students interested in pursuing a career in special education and are always keen to hear from those wanting to volunteer in our school.
