Job overview

To support the teaching and learning at Mayfield, we are seeking a School Librarian to provide and oversee the day to day running of a professional library service fit for the digital age. The candidate will work a 37.5 hour working week in term time (5 days a week) including an additional 10 days during the school holidays, although flexible hours may be considered for the right candidate.

At the heart of the School, our well-stocked library is a digital and physical literary hub for both students and staff. With access to a vast range of online subscriptions, newspapers, audio and ebooks in addition to a wealth of print resources there is something for everyone. As well as giving help and advice to staff and students when using the library services, the successful candidate will have a love of literature and be keen to play a key role in the life of the School, not least in inspiring both staff and pupils to read for pleasure.

Mayfield is a leading Catholic Independent boarding and day School for girls aged 11-18 situated in beautiful East Sussex countryside, less than 50 miles from London and 40 minutes from Gatwick. An international and inclusive community, the School has a tradition of academic achievement with impressive GCSE and A Level results, a vibrant and eclectic extra-curricular provision and an enviable reputation for pastoral care.

We offer excellent working conditions in an outstanding environment. Mayfield has its own salary scale and the salary package for this position will reflect the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Closing date: Monday 15 November 2021, although the School reserves the right to interview and appoint prior to this date.

At Mayfield School we aim to educate the student’s mind, soul, heart and body in partnership with parents, so that each individual may develop: inner confidence, an unshakeable framework of spiritual values, strong moral principles, a deep capacity for compassion, and the knowledge, intellectual curiosity and training to continue learning throughout life; the confidence to become what they want to be, but make that self just what our Lord wants it to be.

We believe that our boarding experience is one of our strongest assets – it stimulates lifelong friendships and family loyalty to the school. It strengthens our work hard, play hard ethos. Our community is a temporary home for about half of our students and it prepares girls for independent life at university and beyond.

Our extra curricular activities programme is designed to compliment and support the girls’ curriculum studies and enhance the boarding experience. By combining their academic studies with creative and physical activities outside of the school day, girls learn to balance their activities with their studies and give equal commitment to both.
