Permanent Part-time – 37.5 hours per week, 42 weeks per year.    


The Librarian is responsible for the leadership and management of the Senior School Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and for providing an innovative, customer-focused Library service to senior school students and staff. Following the release of Westminster School’s new Masterplan, the Librarian will contribute to the planning and development of our new and innovative resource space, scheduled to commence in 2020. An exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about providing learning resources and environments that support the delivery of an exceptional education for young people. Commencing Term 4, 2018.

Key Responsibilities include:  

  • Provide leadership to the Senior School LRC team, demonstrating a commitment to effective working relationships, and to developing staff morale, harmony and teamwork. 
  • Develop and review the LRC Action Plan and Collection Development Policy
  • Manage the LRC resources, including the Library Management system and related technology 
  • Provide students with a range of genres in both print and digital formats and assist students with appropriate choices 
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and developments in library resources and e-learning Liaise with Curriculum Leaders to ensure collection meets the needs of the Australian Curriculum including cross curricular priorities and capabilities 
  • Keeping staff fully informed of School and broader educational developments regarding e-learning and resources 
  • Identify and acquire appropriate resources to support both student and staff learning across the School in collaboration with Curriculum Leaders 
  • Work with the ICT Learning Integrator in improving the overall skill level and application ability of new technologies and software   

Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience  

  • Relevant qualifications in library management and/or information services
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • Experience in leading a small team High level of ICT skills and knowledge 
  • Ability to locate, critically evaluate and use information in all formats to ensure relevant and appropriate content 
  • Regular and up to date professional knowledge and learning 
  • Sound knowledge of literature and proven ability to effectively promote reading within a school or community 
  • Experience in a complex and diverse independent coeducational environment an advantage Experience in change management is desirable
  • Provide first aid accreditation (or ability to attain)

  • Demonstrated commitment to e-learning and utilising ICT innovatively 
  • High level of organisational ability: is flexible and can prioritise and manage multiple demands in a fast paced environment Excellent interpersonal skills which enables positive relationships to be built with managers, peers, staff, parents, and students 
  • Proven commitment to providing excellent customer service 
  • Team orientated: ability to develop a collaborative approach 
  • Well-developed written, aural and oral communication skills
