We are seeking to appoint a creative and inspiring Librarian to run our School Library.   The role is term-time only and 25-30 hours per week during school hours (8.30am-3.30pm), with flexibility to be discussed with the successful candidate.


The role would suit someone with relevant experience looking for a flexible, part-time, term-time role, or someone wishing to gain experience in this field. Alternatively, the role could be an opportunity for someone considering embarking on teacher training in the future. 


We are looking for someone with a creative approach to the role of the School Library in enrichment, literacy and the cultural, and academic development of young people. We have a dedicated Librarian at our Sixth Form site and are seeking a committed team member to run the Library at our main site. 


Duties will include organising the Library and its resources in order to meet the needs of the School’s curriculum and to support the reading, learning and information requirements of the students and staff.   The role will involve liaising with the English department to manage library lessons and to help encourage a pervasive reading culture in the school.  You will also need to be able to monitor the library budget. The position comes with the opportunity to take a role in the wider pastoral life of the School, by co-tutoring a form group.


The role is an integral part of the Schools dedicated team of support staff. We are a friendly, welcoming, hard-working and forward thinking team in an exceptional school successively rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • A book lover! Good knowledge of young adult fiction.
  • Experience of using a library catalogue (e.g. Oliver) and library management systems (or the ability to learn these).
  • Experience of working in libraries, education or bookselling.
  • An entrepreneurial and creative approach to managing the school book shop.
  • Creative - the ability to decorate the library to create a welcoming, visually pleasing environment and put up eye-catching displays to promote a variety of events and exciting new or themed reading material.
  • Ability to support pupils’ learning and their development into effective, independent learners and readers.
  • Confident with Microsoft Office - Publisher and Power Point (for displays and publicity material), Excel (Finance). Familiarity with Google Suite applications (such as Google Docs, Slides, Sheets) and / or the ability to learn to use these quickly.
  • Excellent organisation skills.

  • Salary: FTE £23,211 - £28,752. Actual salary guide for Term-time only, 25-hour week role: £13,564 - £16,802.

The St Marylebone CE School is an all-girls secondary with co-educational sixth form in Westminster, central London. It is affiliated with the Church of England and designated a National Teaching School. Since 2011, St Marylebone has had academy status.

The St Marylebone CE School welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, races, cultures, faiths and genders.   The School actively promotes diversity and inclusion across its community and our students come from a wide range of backgrounds: 40% of our students speak English as an additional language; 59% of our students come from backgrounds other than white British.

The secondary school is located next to St Marylebone Parish Church and is a short walk from Regent’s Park. The sixth-form facilities are based in nearby Blandford Street. St Marylebone was founded in 1791 and it carries the motto "An opportunity to excel". There are currently around 1,100 students, 300 of whom are in the sixth form.
