The Heart of Mercia Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), formed on 1 April 2019 and delivers post 16 education in Hereford, Stourbridge and Worcester. Hereford Sixth Form College is part of this Trust. The MAT has an annual budget of £28m and serves the needs of 5,500 students across the region. The Library is a popular and vibrant resource centre at the heart of the College and we are looking for a customer focused Library Assistant to join our team.

The hours for this role are as follows:  Wednesday 9:30am - 4:00pm, Thursday and Friday 8:15am - 3:45pm, term time only.

The Library provides a range of services to staff and students, designed to support teaching and learning. You will spend much of your time on the main issue/enquiry desk and will be responsible for maintaining an effective study environment in the Library and adjacent study rooms. There are regularly more than 80 students working in the Library at any one time.

The stock includes books, ebooks, audiobooks, periodicals and DVDs - in total, about 15,000 items. We also subscribe to a wide range of online resources relating to the curriculum.

As well as providing all the traditional Library services we look for ways to extend our support for staff and students. This means that the role is varied and your ideas and contribution to service development will be highly valued.

The Library is open between 8:15am – 6:00pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and 8:15am – 5:00pm Wednesday and Friday. 

You should:

• Be customer focused and proactive in your approach to all aspects of the work

• Enjoy working with 16-19 year olds

• Have excellent communication skills

• Be an avid reader and enjoy sharing books with others

• Be competent at searching for information and using online resources

• Enjoy working as part of a team
