Job overview

Terra Nova School is seeking to appoint an inspirational teacher with an absolute passion for their craft and drive to continually improve. You must be a highly reflective practitioner who meticulously questions what you are doing, why you are doing it and the impact on students’ learning and holistic development. Our students should be at the centre of all decision making and guide everything you do.

Your teaching should be devised from well-founded research into how children learn best; ensuring you remain at the forefront of educational research, pedagogy and debate is essential.

At Terra Nova, we refuse to stand still. We are a forward-thinking school with a growing reputation for innovation and internationalism. We have high expectations and a genuine drive to become the leading Prep school in the country. Staff must bring fresh-thinking, dynamic ideas and be keen to embrace change, rethinking how we deliver education in a fast-changing, highly competitive world.

Although we encourage staff to challenge each other professionally, the environment in which this is conducted is positive, respectful and nurturing. Staff are supported and professional learning opportunities are in abundance.  Being a member of our school is being a member of our family. We care.

This is an incredibly exciting time to be joining Terra Nova. It is wonderful place to work with an environment that is the envy of many.  Glorious grounds, friendly and supportive parents coupled with engaged students make working here a delight.

About Terra Nova School

The School

Terra Nova is a leading Prep School for children age 2.5 to 13 years old. It is predominantly a day school, but offers an extended day in which children can stay for supervised Prep, tea, evening activities and overnight. There is, therefore, a thriving boarding community throughout the week.

From your very first visit, you will recognise that there is something special about Terra Nova School, with its successful blend of traditional values and fresh thinking and its wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere.

At Terra Nova we firmly believe that children who are happy and inspired succeed. Our broad curriculum, exceptional pastoral care and nurturing environment ensure that our children are both happy and inspired, and that they each develop their individual strengths.

For all at Terra Nova, academic success and good character are integral goals and in their attainment our children benefit from small classes, superb facilities and talented teachers. We are proud of the fact our children gain entrance to a wide range of the UK’s top independent schools and proud to say that their success thereafter is in no small part attributable to their fine start.

The children here take part in a wide variety of co-curricular activities and they each get the opportunity to participate in an array of sports, helping them to learn the importance of teamwork, build resilience and win and lose graciously. Throughout their time at the school, children are encouraged to try new experiences and take risks, which helps to build their self confidence, ignite passions and make lifelong friends.

We are fierce advocates of the traditional prep school model that allows our children to study with us until 13, preserving childhood until they reach their teens. However, whether leaving us at 13+ or at 11+, by the time our children move on to their senior school they are assured, motivated young people, well prepared to thrive and deal with the excitements and challenges that lie ahead.

I encourage you to come and visit us in our magnificent 35 acre rural setting, across from the awe-inspiring, internationally renowned Lovell Telescope, so that you can see for yourself what makes Terra Nova such an outstanding school.
