Job overview

Palmers Green High School (PGHS) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed teacher to join the supportive and friendly Lower School team, initially in Year 5.  At PGHS you will be teaching bright, interested and hard-working pupils in an academically selective girls' independent school. The successful candidate will be confident and proficient in planning and teaching lessons and will engage and motivate pupils to realise their full potential whilst maintaining the core values of our School. As a Lower School teacher, you will participate fully in the life of the School and contribute to enriching the lives of the girls.

Palmers Green High School is an independent day school for approximately 300 girls aged 3-16 years.  At PGHS we provide a stimulating and supportive environment in which high academic achievement and broad personal development go hand in hand.  The School was founded in 1905 by Miss Alice Hum, a Quaker, and the ideas of integrity and care implicit in the founding philosophy have been maintained in the face of changing standards in society.  One of our main strengths and attractions to parents is the ‘one school’ ethos, which ensures a smooth transition for pupils as they proceed from the Lower School to the Senior School.

We are an ambitious school and recent developments have included the installation of bespoke teaching walls in classrooms and a brand new music suite and school library.

Palmers Green High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

For further details about the School, please visit our website at www.pghs.co.uk

Applications must be received by 12 noon on Sunday 22nd April 2018.

Interviews are expected to take place in the week commencing Monday 30th April 2018.

About Palmers Green High School

With an excellent reputation and a tradition of nurturing capable, independent women, PGHS has held a special place in North London since 1905. Reflecting the diversity of the area, we are committed to offering an outstanding educational experience both in and out of the classroom, ensuring girls develop confidence, resilience, and determination.

Our class sizes and exceptional pastoral care offer a level of personal attention that is unrivalled, and which allows every pupil to be their individual, authentic self. This, alongside excellent examination results at GCSE and extensive opportunities beyond the curriculum, means that pupils are well-prepared for the next phase in their academic careers and go on to the sixth forms and universities of their choice.

Equipping Girls for Success

We believe passionately in girls’ education. Focused teaching groups ensure outstanding pupil engagement, collaboration and communication in lessons and allow our inspirational teachers to provide individualised support and challenge. This contributes to our excellent results and pupils’ readiness to lead successful lives, excelling in their chosen field.

Building Skills for the Future

Developing skills such as risk-taking and problem-solving, PGHS girls are fully equipped for the 21st century through the excellent resources and high-quality teaching in Science, Design & Technology, Computing and Maths. Curiosity sparked, many pupils continue STEM subjects at A-Level and beyond.

Nurturing Creativity

Creativity is at our heart and across the curriculum we aim to develop pupils’ expression, imagination and experimentation skills. Music, Drama and Art and Design are taught by subject specialists across the age range. Creative activities and performance opportunities are a vital part of school life.

Vitality Through Sport

From rugby to rounders, swimming to street dance, tennis to trampolining, sport at PGHS has something for everyone. With access to extensive offsite facilities, girls are encouraged to find an activity – whether recreational or competitive – that they are passionate about, creating happy, healthy individuals.

Exciting Opportunities

Learning is more than a classroom. Opportunities to take on leadership responsibilities, to participate in internal and external competitions and our vibrant extra-curricular programme develop confidence and resilience. We offer a rich calendar of day and residential visits, field trips and expeditions in the UK and abroad.

A Small School with a Big Heart

We live by our School motto, ‘By Love Serve One Another’. We champion one another, celebrating each other’s successes and supporting one another through life’s ups and downs.
