Job overview
The Harris Federation is a successful, highly collaborative and enterprising group of academies in and around London. Our network of academies is setting standards of excellence through an experienced and supportive approach with the aim that every child in London can have the best possible education, enabling them to fulfil their potential and decide their own future. The focus of the Harris Federation is on transforming some of the most challenging schools in London into exceptional places of learning.
The Harris Federation is sponsored by a large multi-national organisation to create a London Centre of Excellence in Mandarin. Mandarin is now thriving at Harris and we are looking to appoint an experienced, or newly qualified teacher who can teach both primary and secondary Mandarin.
Working closely with the central team Mandarin Consultants, the successful candidate will work across a cluster of Harris academies, namely: Harris Primary Academy Mayflower, Harris Academy Chafford Hundred, Harris Academy Riverside, and possibly two other Harris academies nearby, with a range of primary age students from Years 1-6 and KS3 secondary students.
We want someone who can contribute to the development of Mandarin teaching and learning across all our primary and secondary academies. Our aim is to further develop the profile of Mandarin, develop an engaging curriculum that will prepare students for further Mandarin education and inspire the next generation of Mandarin speakers.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for a creative and dynamic teacher who will be able to contribute to the development of the Mandarin curriculum at Early Years, KS1, KS2 and KS3.
Strong subject knowledge and the ability to teach at primary level is essential. The appointed candidate will be well supported by an excellent induction programme and access to excellent facilities for teaching and learning.
Why work for the Harris Federation?
As a top performing Multi-Academy Trust, we offer access to a professional and supportive community of academies, fellow Principals, and mentors to help develop and progress your career.
Harris is a Federation and not a chain; each Harris academy is different, reflecting the particular aspirations and leadership style of its Principal. All of our primary and secondary academies are rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted and we are recognised for transforming the life chances of the children and teenagers we educate.
We look for talented individuals who are able to transform the most challenging schools in and around London into exceptional places of learning.

In joining a Harris Academy, you will be working with some of the country’s most exceptional teachers, support staff and leaders. There are frequent opportunities for internal exchange and promotion; our CPD is regularly described as Outstanding; and we have a package of staff benefits that rivals the most competitive of other professions.
Each Harris Academy is led and run by its senior leaders and has its own curriculum and way of doing things. What our Academies share, however, is a commitment to giving their children and teenagers an excellent education within a happy, caring and supportive environment.
There are Harris Academies in many different settings – inner city and suburban – but they are all within a maximum ninety minute commute from each other. This enables a highly collaborative structure, with on-call support from the Harris Federation.
