Facilities and Resources

The Maths Department is housed in a block shared with the English Department with 9 classrooms and an office space. Staffing currently stands at 6 full-time posts and 5 part time posts. Many teachers contribute to the teaching of A-level.

Teaching and Learning

In Key Stage 3, the Maths Department uses its own scheme of work that is supported by a series of KS3 resources. In Year 7, classes are taught in mixed ability form groups for the first term. From Christmas onwards, Maths is taught in ability groups that are regularly monitored to ensure all students are in an appropriate group.

At Key Stage 4, we follow the AQA GCSE specification.

Breakdown of GCSE TAG results for 2020/21.

GCSE Maths 9 – 4: 82%

GCSE Maths 9 – 5: 60%

GCSE Maths 9 – 7: 13%

Maths P8: N/A

Our last externally assessed results from 2018/19 continued a 3 year improving trend and were as follows:

GCSE Maths 9 – 4: 69%

GCSE Maths 9 – 5: 50%

GCSE Maths 9 – 7: 15%

Maths P8: -0.17

At A level half of all grades were an A or A* in 2020/21 and this is consistent with Maths being one of the top performing subjects at A-level, and achieving 83% A*-B in Maths A-level in the last externally assessed exams in 2018/19.

The results shown above were an improvement on previous years but we are keen to develop further our strategies for raising attainment across the ability range and the successful candidate will be central in driving this next phase.

How to apply:

We are looking to recruit a candidate who can start in January 2022.

Please include, with your application form, a concise letter describing the qualities and experiences that will enable you to be an outstanding teacher of Maths. You should include some of your experiences of gaining successes with students and staff, making it clear how you were able to have impact.
