This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious candidate to make a real and lasting impact on educational provision in the community of Irlam & Cadishead as its school evolves into an Academy sponsored by the Salford Academy Trust.

Irlam and Cadishead College faces significant challenges yet has the potential to become ‘outstanding’ over time. The ongoing evolution will provide an engaging and motivating environment that is perfect for candidates who are invested in being an active part of a rapidly developing College. Candidates will enjoy taking on rewarding responsibilities that offer them the ability to lead and develop the curriculum area in a manner they feel most effective. This role will contribute to the creation of an enriching and welcoming learning environment that provides an inspiring and exciting background that supports the success of both students and staff.

Irlam and Cadishead College is now seeking to appoint an exceptional, experienced and energetic Mathematics Curriculum Leader who is committed to providing outstanding education and has a clear vision for teaching and learning with a focus on improving outcomes for students and performance of the College as a whole.

Irlam and Cadishead College is at the heart of the community and has the capacity to accommodate up to 950 students (including a small Sixth Form). The College moved to a purpose-built accommodation in 2011 and has developed strong links with local businesses including the Manchester United Foundation.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A clear and focused strategic vision to drive up standards and improve outcomes and achievements using the developed Mathematics Curriculum
  • The ability to develop and motivate staff, students and parents and engage them with this vision
  • The ability to create a curriculum that ensures that all staff plan lessons that are engaging, motivating and challenging while meeting the standards set by the Schemes of Learning
  • The confidence to lead all curriculum staff in the assurance that their full working knowledge and understanding of the specification/assessment criteria and of students’ baseline data (acting on half-termly Data Capture analysis) ensures that expected progress and targets are met
  • The ability to monitor the accountability of teaching staff via a robust quality assurance programme
  • The drive to ‘close the gap’ in academic performance for Pupil Premium students
  • The means to guarantee that all teachers within the curriculum area know how their subjects are performing nationally and in comparison to ‘similar’ schools, and that they are making accurate half-termly assessments
  • Educational strategies and leadership expertise to accelerate the progress of students at an appropriate pace
  • Passion and energy with the resilience to drive the College through a period of change and to promote an inspiring environment and the development of a positive ethos
  • The ability to build the ambition of students by promoting and embedding a culture of learning through means such as appropriate praise and reward

The successful candidate will enjoy working with:

  • Students who are friendly, enthusiastic, well-behaved and willing to learn
  • Staff who are welcoming, dedicated and share a commitment to improving standards
  • Governors who are supportive, committed, engaged and knowledgeable
  • A community that is aspirational and demanding
  • Facilities that are state of the art

Irlam & Cadishead College is a mixed, 11-19 academy, sponsored by the Salford Academy Trust and situated in Irlam in the metropolitan district of Salford on the Cheshire and Warrington border. The pupil roll is around 670.

Irlam & Cadishead College started life as Irlam and Cadishead High School but in  2011 this school was closed and knocked down and its pupils and staff moved next door to a new building.   The new £24m school, built with Private Finance Initiative cash as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme, was renamed Irlam and Cadishead College. The school  benefits from a variety of modern learning spaces, outdoor classrooms, a new sports hall, gym and a flood-lit all-weather pitch. Budding performers have a new music technology suite, performance hall and dance and drama workshops to support their development.

After a period of difficulties, Irlam and Cadishead College is embarking on a successful journey of improvement.
