We are looking for a Mathematics Teacher. The role reports to the Head of Mathematics and starts in September 2023. During the academic year, the role will require 9-12 hours (negotiable) of teaching time per week. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching Mathematics.

About The Role 

As a Mathematics Tutor you will: 

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of all students at MPW London 
  • Prepare lessons in accordance with the departmental Scheme of Work, college policies and examination specifications. 
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of your subject and the relevant means of assessment 
  • Assist the Head of Department in updating department policies and curriculum planning 
  • Teach students in accordance with their developmental needs, using a variety of stimulating, quality methods of learning. 
  • Assist in the creation of a range of teaching resources for use within the department, as well as promoting literacy, numeracy and ICT skills through curriculum delivery. 
  • Provide homework and exam-based assignments, as well as ensure that students receive the support they need for coursework 
  • Support students with deadlines for submissions, ensuring their work is correctly assessed and moderated. 
  • Support the Principal with student interviews, providing advice about your course and student suitability 
  • Reinforce by general conduct and teaching the aims and values of the college as a whole and engage with the extra-curricular aspects of college life. 


About You 

You have: 

  • A degree in a relevant subject. 
  • Passion for sharing your knowledge with others, and the ability to devise and implement a range of teaching strategies to promote learning and enjoyment of the subject 
  • An approachable, friendly, and professional communication style, both orally and in writing 
  • Confidence in using Microsoft Office, as well as online systems/databases 
  • A strong knowledge of the Mathematics practices and curriculum initiatives 
  • Awareness of the likely developments affecting the delivery of the subject at Key Stage 4 and post-16 levels 
  • Patience and perseverance, and a commitment to the overcoming barriers to learning 
  • An inspiring, confident and positive attitude to maintaining student discipline 
  • A team-focused attitude, and a willingness to support others

Mander Portman Woodward is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form situated in Cambridge. It is an independent school that forms part of the Mander Portman Woodward (MPW) group of schools, which also has schools in London and Birmingham. A smaller than average-sized secondary school, it will provide 240 places for secondary and sixth form students between the ages of 14-20, when fully subscribed.

The MPW organisation was established in 1973 as the “route to the UK’s top universities” for students. The Cambridge branch of MPW schools opened in 1987, occupying two linked Victorian houses and another nearby house.
