It is the second oldest school in Moree and was founded in 1898 when several nuns came from Gunnedah to establish a convent and a school. The school has a long tradition of parental involvement. It has been the custom for parents and teachers to come together in various areas of school life ranging from assisting staff with classroom activities, work in the school canteen, sport activities, excursions and retreats.

Values and vision

St Philomena's Moree aims to provide students with a Catholic education in a caring, disciplined environment where striving for excellence and respect for others are promoted. The school aims to achieve this through a religious education program, policies and structures which endeavour to put into practice Gospel values, and opportunities for students to participate in prayer, liturgy, and the sacraments. There is a desire to provide stimulating learning experiences for students through effective teaching in a well-resourced educational environment. Overall, the school wishes to promote the formation of whole persons by complementing academic development of students with opportunities for them to grow spiritually, socially, physically, emotionally, and intellectually. Importance is placed on interaction with parents, the parish and wider community. There is also a commitment to providing opportunities for communication with parents so that they may have greater involvement in school life.
