All classrooms have interactive whiteboards or multimedia projectors and screens, and they have a number of specialised learning spaces within their school. In addition, students have a 1:1 ratio of a Chromebook or IPad, and all teachers are allocated a laptop.

A stunning school setting and localised curriculum has students as active participants in environmental sustainability programs in the community. They represent among the largest improvements in NCEA pass rates for any school in the country, and have many initiatives in place to continue their growing success.

Tolaga Bay Area School is flanked by the river and the bay, both of which are weaved through the curriculum. Described as the ‘hub of the community’, the school is a focal point for many events, activities and initiatives. A 40 minute drive from Gisborne, the stunning coastal Tolaga Bay is home to New Zealand’s longest wharf. The population is predominantly Maori, and the bay is a centre of the Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti iwi.
