Over the past two years our Maths results have improved significantly due to strong leadership of the department. Over 65% of students achieved grades 9-4, which was above the National average, with over 38% achieving grades 9-5, a 12% increase from the previous year. Progress in Maths was -0.01. This year we are predicting positive progress. You will have the opportunity to contribute to this highly motivated team and you are guaranteed to receive excellent support from them and the leadership team.
Our fundamental belief is that all students are mathematicians, and as such, we aim to instil a love of mathematics and the confidence and willingness for students to achieve their full potential. The key principles which we aim to foster in our students are a deep understanding of mathematical thinking and language, with problem solving at the heart of our curriculum. As well as developing numeracy and literacy skills, students are taught resilience and a determination to succeed as they face new challenges; fostering a growth mindset enables them to be equipped for the world beyond school. At The Dorcan Academy we believe that through hard work and effort all students can improve in mathematics and achieve their very best.
We are a rapidly improving school, as recognised by Ofsted in November 2018, with good leadership and management and an excellent behaviour policy. In our school students are ready to learn and ‘low level disruption is rare’. We pride ourselves on being an ‘academy of opportunity’ for all with excellent relationships between staff and students. As a member of staff you will be highly valued and will be supported to flourish within the Global Learning Faculty as well as the academy as a whole.
Every member of staff receives bespoke support and development through our in-house coaching programme as well as additional professional development opportunities to promote further progress and career enhancement.
