Contract type: Full Time
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Contract term: Permanent

The Royal School is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Mathematics teacher to join a key department from April 2018 in our heavily oversubscribed free school. The aptitude and willingness to teach a range of abilities from ages 11-18 is essential. Ability to teach A-Level and ambition and passion for the subject and wider educational vision is crucial. We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and aspirational NQTs. Contribution to ‘numeracy’ across the all-through day and boarding school (4-19) may be an opportunity for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic teacher.

The mathematics department is at an important stage in securing the highest standards of learning and teaching for children in the school community. The department has a central suite of rooms and is rapidly gaining momentum in the use of interactive software and the department is keen to enhance its use of IT at all levels. The school has entered a significant building programme where all areas of this well-established school will be brought up to the very highest standards over the next 2 years. The department is eager to improve the standards and ‘passion’ of mathematics for all students and aims to develop mathematical reasoning and problem solving whilst still developing the fundamental skills students need. All year groups are set by ability and regular pupil tracking assists with such decisions. We currently teach GCSE from year 9, spreading the demands of the new specification over three years, offering the best opportunity for students to fully master all topics. Mathematics is a very popular subject at A-Level. At present, there are 6 groups including 2 further mathematics groups and with the increasing numbers to the school, the mathematics team want to build on the positive exam success of previous years.

The Royal School is at an exciting time of development. The new free school is an all-through (Reception to Y13) ‘independent’ school without day fees, whilst still providing excellent boarding at affordable fees. Alongside the growth in pupil numbers, there will be an expansion in the curriculum, enrichment activities and vastly improved facilities, enabling us to extend and enhance still further the range of opportunities for all our young people and our staff.

The Royal School has achieved excellent academic results throughout its history and has an outstanding reputation for nurturing and developing confident, well-disciplined and successful individuals who progress successfully to the next stage of their life and career. We relish this next phase in its existence, which enables us to review and build on our current success in preparing our young people holistically for a rapidly evolving world.

A responsibility allowance may be available for a whole school numeracy co-ordinator if an applicant has the required drive and experience. Contribution to the broader curriculum is an essential part of the role.

Please, visit The Royal School website for further information and details of how to apply.
