Who we are

Compass Community School Woking is a part of a passionate, well respected and forward-thinking family of schools throughout the country.

We are an independent specialist day school providing high-quality, therapeutic and child-centred education to up to 30 boys and girls from 7 to 17 years of age. Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds but all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), and many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties. Many will have suffered significant trauma and adverse childhood experiences and may have social care involvement.

We are part of a strong, supportive network, both locally and nationally, which is committed to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment where everyone is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential, regardless of their starting points or barriers to learning. Aspirations for both students and staff are incredibly high.

The Role

We require a teacher of Mathematics and the Sciences. You may be a subject specialist/qualified in either discipline but the willingness and ability to deliver both is preferred. At your disposal will be a robust and well-developed curriculum with meaningful schemes of work and interactive, high quality resources.

You will be supported by national subject champions who can support the work of non-subject specialists to be experts in how best to facilitate learning for the children they know best.

Our Maths and Science curricula span Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key stage 3 and GCSE.

No matter the accreditation which is best for the child to pursue, we maintain high aspirations for our children regardless of their learning journey and don’t underestimate the importance of qualifications to provide our children with life chances and opportunities.

We are all primarily teachers of children before teachers of subjects. Central to this role is knowing the child, building professional, nurturing and positive relationships and motivating students so that they can wring every last drop of from the curriculum and opportunities we offer.

Compass Community School teachers inspire children, creating a sense of awe and wonder and making subjects and lessons real and relevant to them. They plan exciting and engaging learning opportunities which challenge and push students whether they are working on the very basics or they are have a special talent or passion for the subject.

The role will also require the creating of opportunities to enhance our students’ cultural capital through the inventive use of trips, speakers, visitors and activities beyond the classroom.

Safeguarding

This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Compass Community Schools are committed to safeguarding children and young people and we expect everyone who works in our school to share this commitment, including proprietors, governors and visitors.

Adults in our school take all welfare concerns seriously and encourage children and young people to talk to us about anything that worries them. We have an established culture of vigilance to protect children from harm.

All children are taught about safeguarding, including online, through various teaching and learning opportunities, as part of providing a broad and balanced curriculum. Children are taught to recognise when they are at risk and how to get help when they need it.

We will always act in the best interest of the child.

At Compass Community Schools our children are at the very heart of every decision we make. We strive to deliver a holistic education experience which helps children develop personal qualities, which are valued in British society; for example, thoughtfulness, honesty, respect for difference, moral principles, independence, and self-respect.

We aim to develop young people who are responsible, caring and respectful of others, and who have a strong sense of fair-ness and what is ‘right’. We want them to treat others as they would like to be treated themselves and to understand and celebrate diversity and difference.

The school will help our children and young people to develop an inner discipline and will encourage pupils to not just ‘follow the crowd’ – they will make up their own minds and be ready to accept responsibility for what they do. They will grow through making choices and holding to the choices that they have made. They will want to be honest with themselves and with others.
