About Sumdog

Interviews have commenced, early applications are encouraged

Sumdog is an online games-based maths, spelling & grammar practice service used by millions of pupils worldwide.

We're at the forefront of an exciting edtech revolution helping to solve the challenges arising during the pandemic and in the longer term helping to narrow the attainment gap.

We capture a detailed understanding of each child's strengths, and use this to deliver tailored mastery learning. The results are spectacular. Our research found pupils using Sumdog for 30 minutes weekly made much faster progress than those using it less.

For many, this makes us the perfect employer. The work we do is challenging - but also rewarding and valuable.

Job Description

Maths Curriculum Developer

Sumdog Maths is currently being used by around 80% of primary schools in Scotland. With the recent focus on blended learning for students, we want to ensure that the platform can be used seamlessly alongside Scottish teachers' own lessons plans to provide students with engaging maths practice aligned perfectly to the CfE experiences and outcomes.

Sumdog is looking for an educator to develop our maths curriculum content for Scottish primary schools and to coordinate other work for curricula worldwide.

As part of the Curricula Team at Sumdog, you will lead a full review and re-structure of the maths content for CfE, informed by your own teaching experience and that of external education experts. In areas where our curriculum coverage needs to be enhanced, you will develop a roadmap of content improvements, and oversee its implementation by working alongside maths question writers, and our software engineering teams.

Once the processes for the CfE have been established, you will also extend this full review to other countries' curricula with the help of educational experts in those areas. This is an excellent opportunity to use your knowledge of the maths curriculum to provide support to pupils all over Scotland and beyond.

Main responsibilities

  • Self-managing your development of a thorough knowledge of the current Sumdog math content, with support from the current Curricula Team;
  • Structuring our existing maths content to align perfectly with the CfE;
  • Onboarding and managing external consultants to review our curriculum content;
  • Managing and prioritising tasks to develop, and oversee the implementation of, a roadmap of curriculum improvements.

Knowledge, skills and experience needed

Essential

  • Experience of teaching maths in Scottish primary or secondary schools;
  • A thorough understanding of the CfE benchmarks, and experience and outcomes for primary school maths;
  • The technical confidence to learn to use our curriculum-building website tools;
  • Competent user of spreadsheets to organise data;
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills;
  • An interest in the use of EdTech to teach the CfE maths curriculum;
  • A commitment to our company mission and values.

Desirable

  • Experience of developing curricula or schemes of work;
  • Experience using Sumdog in the classroom;
  • Experience of developing online content for EdTech;
  • Experience of curricula in Wales, Northern Ireland, New Zealand or Australia.
