Mander Portman Woodward is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form situated in Cambridge. It is an independent school that forms part of the Mander Portman Woodward (MPW) group of schools, which also has schools in London and Birmingham. A smaller than average-sized secondary school, it will provide 240 places for secondary and sixth form students between the ages of 14-20, when fully subscribed.

The MPW organisation was established in 1973 as the “route to the UK’s top universities” for students. The Cambridge branch of MPW schools opened in 1987, occupying two linked Victorian houses and another nearby house.

Values and Vision

Mander Portman Woodward Cambridge and its two partner schools are educational environments with the main aim of equipping fifth and sixth form students to get into the UK’s top universities. It is a place with a friendly and thriving atmosphere and a culture of enjoying hard work and achieving success. An out-of-classroom informality contrasting with the intensive teaching approach of the classroom makes sure that all students are comfortable learning at the school and reaching high levels of success in the process.

Ofsted

“The college’s leaders and governors have maintained the high standards achieved at the time of the previous inspection. This is due to their high expectations and the excellent care, guidance and support they offer to pupils. The quality of teaching is outstanding because it takes account of the needs of individual pupils exceptionally well and ensures that they make strong progress.”
