Job overview

Full-Time Teaching Post – Maths GCSE & Sixth Form

Westbourne is a 2-18 independent school in Penarth with an excellent academic record and an excellent ESTYN report in every category. We offer GCSEs and the International Baccalaureate (IB) in the sixth form.

The teaching role

You will be responsible for GCSE and Higher Level IB Mathematics (average class size of 4-6 students). Consequently, a candidate with a strong academic background is a compulsory requirement – ideally, a knowledge of the IB would be preferred.

You should be a qualified teacher and have a passion for both teaching and learning. Additional responsibilities will be as a pastoral form tutor and to undertake full teaching responsibilities, including planning, assessment, revision and parents’ evenings.

This is an incredible opportunity for an academic maths teacher to challenge able students and be challenged themselves in an environment where students are happy at school and want to work hard at all times. The successful candidate will join a school currently celebrating its best year of success in its 120-year history – with fantastic external results and the finest ESTYN inspection report.

To apply, please send a CV and covering letter to gerardgriffiths@westbourneschool.com before 01/07/2019.

Westbourne School History

Westbourne School was opened in 1895 at Ebenezer House in Westbourne Road. The present school dates its founding from 1896 when Miss Caroline Ferris became headmistress and named it: 'Westbourne House Preparatory School for Boys'. In 1901 the school moved to 13 Stanwell Road.

The adjoining building, 4 Hickman Road, was purchased in 1975 and the two buildings developed into Westbourne Senior School. Developments since 1975 have seen the school open a college for years 9-11, the acquisition of St. Alma's Girls' school at Victoria Road, after which the school became co-educational. The Victoria Road site now houses Westbourne Nursery and Junior school. Continuing improvements and the broadening of the school curriculum have seen an increase in pupil and staff numbers. Recent re-organisation in the school has led to a unification of identity into one school and the school continues to flourish, building on and adding to the achievements of the past
