Job overview

 Maths Teacher - 0.5 - 0.6fte (negotiable) MPS1 - 6 (£23,720.00 - £35,008.00 fte)

DYS Space Ltd (space*) works to unlock potential with young people and their communities. We have an exciting opportunity at our Independent School, Chances, for a dynamic and determined Maths teacher to join us.

We want to appoint an outstanding and creative Maths teacher who is confident in leading student tracking and progression in the subject. You will be based at our school in the Red Rock Youth Centre, Dawlish, working alongside and leading one other maths teacher. You will be supported by experienced youth workers and teachers as part of our Chances Education Support Service team.

Chances delivers a core curriculum  to young people in key stages 3 and 4. It works with young people, often facing multiple challenges, referred from schools and local authority departments, who could benefit from a unique blend of formal and informal education packages. Students are referred for short and effective intervention, outside of mainstream education, in order to reduce exclusions and de-escalate some of the challenges. The ability to engage and motivate young people on the fringes of mainstream education is an essential requirement of this post.

We are seeking a resilient individual who is able to develop trust with our vulnerable students and with our colleagues, and who enjoys learning from mistakes - their own and others’. We want you to be responsible for developing our Maths offer, demonstrating progression within the subject and to bring your knowledge, skills and the right attitude to enable others to also do so. Preferably, you will have experience of multi-agency work as well as an understanding of social care processes - but if you don’t, we’ll help you and teach you.

Chances is committed to safeguarding young people and staff. Appointment is subject to enhanced DBS disclosure and references. If you’re energetic, pro-active, innovative and a committed teacher, who understands and thrives in teamwork environments, we’d love to hear from you.

Please see the job opportunity document attached for further information but if you would like to speak to someone in person about this role then please contact Gary Hayes on 01626 864412.

To apply for this post please download and complete the attached supporting statement and return along with your CV either via email to recruitment@spacepsm.org or posting to DYS Space Ltd, 100 Club, Wear Barton Road, Exeter, Devon EX2 7EH

Deadline for applications: Thursday 7th February 2019

Interviews:  Thursday 14th February 2019
