ABOUT THE ROLE


We require a well-qualified, enthusiastic and experienced teacher of Maths to join our teaching team on the International Foundation Year. Lessons are delivered from our Manchester Centre, and the capacity to offer both online and face-to-face teaching is essential.


The successful applicant will have the ability to teach students from a variety of countries and cultural backgrounds, with different language levels. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher looking to teach in international education.


The Mathematics module is studied by all students on Science and Engineering programmes, and the majority of students on Business and Humanities programmes. There is some differentiation in content taught across the three strands of Mathematics: Maths for Business; Maths for Science and Maths for Engineering


  • You’ll make purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and meet the individual needs of students, including adapting materials for blended and flipped learning for online students.
  • You’ll mark both formative and summative coursework to agreed deadlines, liaising with the Examinations Board as necessary and keeping reliable records of scores achieved.
  • You’ll provide oral and written feedback to students and other stakeholders (e.g. programme managers, academic schools, marketing staff, sponsors and parents).
  • You’ll maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic progress, and to produce periodic reports at the request of the Programme Manager.
  • You’ll develop reasonable rules of classroom behaviour and ensure they are consistently applied, including appropriate management of online classrooms.
  • You’ll provide academic support for international students as appropriate through consultations and tutorials (e.g. advice on language learning, study skills and academic expectations for University study, and where to seek additional academic support and information).

 

ABOUT YOU

  • You’ll possess the ability to teach Maths modules at A-Level standard alongside possessing a relevant teaching qualification(s), ideally a PGCE
  • You’ll have an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area.
  • You’ll have the experience of managing learning across a range of class sizes.
  • You’ll have an understanding of the challenges of teaching international students for whom English is a second language and respect for students of different nationalities and cultures.
  • You’ll have previous experience of writing, marking and providing feedback on assessment in accordance with academic regulations.
  • You’ll have experience of tracking, recording & managing student attendance, achievement and progress and provide interventions to support student performance.
  • You’ll possess an enthusiasm for continual improvement and development
  • You’ll have a willingness to undertake additional responsibilities (i.e. programme development) in agreement with the line manager.
