About Lister Community School

Lister Community School is a large 11-16 Academy at the heart of its community and part of the Newham Community School Trust. Our vision is to provide a world class international education for young people in Newham. We believe our young people have the right to the same quality of teaching and range of opportunities as at any school in the country, and our ethos is one of continuous improvement.

In December 2018 Ofsted the inspectors found that the school has maintained the good quality of education and ‘made strong progress in many aspects of the school’s provision‘ since our last inspection in September 2013. Our many strengths are highlighted, including how students are ‘courteous and articulate’ and ‘say they enjoy school and value the wide range of opportunities they are given’. We are very proud that the report recognises our high aspirations, the hard work and good behaviour of our students, and the dedication and commitment of our staff.

A positive impact: Our students are courteous, motivated and have high aspirations. You would be working in a school where around 61% of students are identified as Pupil Premium and 60% with EAL and where staff are committed to addressing educational disadvantages.

The school is led by a team of senior leaders who are enthusiastic and experienced and, alongside all staff, share a positive and united vision for the school’s future.  With an improved curriculum, vertical tutoring and house systems, Lister provides a well rounded and balanced experience for students.

Across our two primary and four secondary schools, all located in the west of the borough, we educate over 5,400 local children and young people, and employ a team of  close to 700 members of staff, the vast majority of whom live locally.
