Job overview

Our School

Westminster Academy is an Outstanding International Business and Enterprise academy serving a multi-ethnic community in Central London. The Academy has gained national recognition for its work to improve outcomes for students, and its aspirational and inclusive mission and ethos.  Our longstanding 1:1 device programme allows WA to thrive as both an onsite and remote learning environment.  As a member of the collaborative WA community, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of the Academy whilst working alongside an exceptionally talented group of colleagues who are committed to continued professional growth and improvement of the student experience.

Our Maths department

Our Maths department has transformed student outcomes and succeeded in inspiring a love of maths learning at Westminster Academy  through the dedication of staff, their exceptional subject knowledge and the department’s forward-thinking approach to data and the curriculum.  The Maths department is highly regarded nationally and among our student body for the care and personal support offered to students. We are now looking for an innovative teacher to join this successful team.

Our Maths curriculum and pedagogy

The GCSE results in the Maths department continued to show outstanding progress, in 2020 83% of students received grades 9-4 and 29% received grades 9-7. In 2019 we achieved 75% of grades 9-4 and 27% grades 9-7. The department prides itself in its belief that every  student can be successful at maths, as such we teach in mixed ability settings. We have a strong 7 year curriculum, which builds depth in knowledge through problem solving and mastery, and allows students to  explore mathematics outside of the classroom through regional and national competitions with the UKMT. The department has been the driving force behind the Academy's adoption of the Google suite, developing the use of technology in the classroom through Chromebooks and leading staff training to share best practice in this area.

International Baccalaureate Maths offers teachers specialised training with the IBO, challenging content and the chance to approach maths with a global perspective. We are a unique department where all our Sixth Form students study a post-16 maths course feeding into our vision of maths being an essential life skill. Students are encouraged to probe the reasons for learning, using technology in maths and the relevance of it in the world around them. It is a matter of pride that we offer both the Application and Interpretation, and Analysis and Approaches courses at Standard Level, and the prestigious Analysis and Approaches Higher Level course for both IBDP and IBCP students.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • An excellent classroom teacher who is committed to the success of each individual student
  • Experienced in teaching the relevant subject(s) with a relevant university degree
  • Able to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to their own professional growth and development

What we offer:

  • A competitive salary and benefits package
  • Sign up incentives available for experienced IB educators
  • An excellent programme of continuing professional development
  • Relevant training with the International Baccalaureate for teachers of Key Stage 5
