Job overview

The post will involve working closely with the Head of Maths to coordinate our Essential skills programme at Key Stage 3 and to develop the enrichment and extracurricular provision within the department.

The successful applicant will specialise, or have a special interest, in supporting pupils with weak numeracy skills. Primary training or experience working on Year 7 transition would be an advantage. The successful applicant will be able to teach Maths at Key Stages 3 and 4.

The Maths Department at Kennet consistently delivers excellent results. We have healthy numbers of pupils continuing with their Mathematical studies into Key Stage 5 with two classes of A level Maths and one class of Further Maths in Years 12 and 13.

Kennet School has an excellent CPD programme and the Head of Department will work closely with you to support your own professional development and career progression.

What We Believe

At Kennet we place learning at the heart of everything we do. Many schools claim to do this, but we believe this is a defining and visible quality of our organisation.

We are an open and collaborative community. Through research and evidence-informed practice, we seek to drive education reform through the heart of our school, making decisions that are right for our pupils, as a team, every single day.

History & Context

Kennet is  a dynamic and ambitious 11-18 comprehensive school which opened in September 1957. The school has grown over the last 65 years, both in terms of size and success. We currently have approximately 1,900 pupils on roll including strong numbers in the Sixth Form at around 380 pupils. We were  judged by Ofsted to be Outstanding in May 2016 and have accumulated a number of awards including Arts Mark Platinum, Exceptional Schools Award, NACE Challenge Award, Investors in Careers and the Sandwell Well-Being Charter Mark focusing on the mental health and well-being of our whole organisation.

Professional Development

We are extremely proud of the quality of our professional development programmes. In their 2016 report Ofsted commented that “there is a shared drive to improve teaching so that teaching and learning are always at the heart of the school’s work. Leaders and teachers see themselves as professional students and seek to improve and develop their practice continuously.”.

We believe strongly in investing in individuals and their careers and our aim is to help every member of staff be the best they can be through our professional growth programme.

We also provide bespoke support for early career teachers and we have developed a programme for recently qualified teachers which takes teachers from their ECT years through to their third year of teaching, preparing them to take on significant positions of responsibility.

Benefits

  • High quality PD programmes and opportunities for progression
  • Supportive culture of lesson observation and coaching
  • Career support at all levels of experience
  • State of the Art facilities and resources
  • Excellent IT infrastructure and provision for staff and pupils
  • Leisure centre on site
  • Cycle to Work scheme
