Job overview

Concord College requires experienced residential matrons for its residential summer courses for students aged 10-17 years. Courses (including staff induction) run from 29th June to 27th July and 28th July to 20th August 2017. The College is situated in a beautiful rural location in close proximity to Shrewsbury and the Shropshire hills. There are excellent sports and leisure facilities on campus including two large sports halls, squash courts, aerobics and weight training room, climbing wall, running track, indoor heated swimming pool, outdoor sports pitches and courts and a modern high ropes adventure course.

The Residential Matron will be in charge of a boarding house and responsible for the welfare of the students in that accommodation. They will offer ‘home to care’ support for students during the day, being a key contact point in the house. They will be responsible for coordinating a team of residential staff for pastoral supervision, bedtime checks and overnight care.  The role also includes assisting the management and medical team on a rota basis throughout the day with escorting students to medical appointments, updating student records and other relevant duties. Accommodation, full board and a laundry service are provided.

All staff are supported by an experienced management team and benefit from regular in-service training workshops. All boarding houses have access to a PC with internet access and WiFi is enabled throughout the campus.

We only employ staff who can speak fluent English and applicants must have the right to work in the UK as the College does not apply for work permits, visas or offer sponsorship to those applying from outside Europe.

All successful applicants will be asked to undergo Child Protection screening which includes checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service. Concord College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a suitable qualification in childcare or nursing, or previous experience in a similar pastoral role in a residential school. A full clean driving licence is required. First aid knowledge is essential and a first aid certificate is desirable or a willingness to work towards one is essential.

Salary and Benefits

Basic salary for the July course - £1,207*

Basic salary for the August course - £992*

These figures are based on matrons working a full course and include holiday pay. A breakdown is provided on contracts of employment.

* The basic salary will increase by a maximum of four increments, which are based on qualifications and experience (the value of each increment is £87.50 for July and £75 for August) leading to a maximum salary of £1,557 for July and £1,292 for August.
