Salary grade: (£32,157 - £50,935) Plus SEN (£2,270)

Required immediately

We are looking to appoint an experienced and dedicated teacher who has the ability to teach both primary and secondary aged pupils (including those with social, emotional and mental health conditions) to work at New River College Medical PRU.

The post holders will need to be confident and effective teachers who can deliver exciting and fun lessons. We are looking for teachers who relish a challenge, who want to try new ideas and who genuinely want to contribute to the lives of young people with drive and passion. Ability to engage children with SEN is more important than the phase you are used to teaching so both primary and secondary trained teachers are encouraged to apply.

New River College comprises of three pupil referral units in Islington (primary, secondary and medical), for pupils with social, emotional and mental health challenges (SEMH). We are a trauma informed school, and this is at the centre of all we do with young people. We teach children and young people aged five to sixteen years old who have been permanently excluded or participate in our preventative programmes to address their behaviour, and children and young people with complex SEMH or medical needs.

New River College Medical is split across three sites, in the School, at the Whittington Hospital and in pupils home and/or local community so a willingness to teach on multiple sites is essential. In addition, the post holder will be expected to teach at least two subjects linked to their main subject area.

Closing date: Midnight Sunday 9th October 2022

Shortlisted candidates will be notified by: Tuesday 11th October 2022

Interviews will be held on: Monday 17th October – Tuesday 18th October 2022

For background information visit our website www.newrivercollege.co.uk or for an informal discussion about the post or to arrange a visit please contact Michele Lambert on 020 7504 0534 (option 2) or via email on michele.lambert@nrc.islington.sch.uk

New River College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) with barred list check will be required. Also, if this post is likely to come under the requirements of the Childcare (Disqualification) 2009 Regulations and the successful applicant will be required to declare.

The successful applicant will need to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and, in line with KCSIE 2022 and safer recruitment practices, the school will conduct an online search for all shortlisted candidates. The online search is part of our safeguarding checks and will seek publicly available information on candidates’ suitability to work with children. Shortlisted candidates will be provided with further guidance and will be asked to clarify their online presence.
