 TEACHER OF MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES ROLE PURPOSE:

§ The ability to teach French and Spanish to Key Stage 4

§ To communicate and foster a passion for modern foreign languages, literature, and culture.

§ To enable the development of pupils by raising intercultural awareness and exploring the intersection of faith, culture and language.

§ To deliver intellectually rigorous, innovative, and inspiring teaching that aligns with the ethos of St Matthew Academy.

§ To cultivate a learning environment where pupils are challenged to achieve their full academic potential, strive for excellence, and develop into confident, ethical individuals

§ To contribute to the academy’s commitment to holistic pastoral development of our pupils, moral integrity and spiritual formation within a vibrant Catholic community


JOB DESCRIPTION

All teachers are required to adhere to the following:

· Teaching Excellence:

1. Deliver high-quality lessons as allocated, with teaching rooted in deep subject knowledge, fostering critical thinking, creativity and establishing a lifelong love of learning in pupils;

2. Create a classroom environment that promotes respect, discipline, and facilitates learning;

3. Identify and support pupil’ individual needs, ensuring that pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) are included and progress;

4. Actively engage in continuous professional development to remain at the

· Curriculum Design and Development:

5. Plan and deliver lessons that align with the latest National Curriculum whilst reflecting the school’s ethos;

6. Maintain detailed schemes of work and resources and share these with the department;

7. Incorporate interdisciplinary approaches where appropriate, to encourage pupils to see the links between subjects and foster intellectual curiosity;

8. Be familiar with the provisions of and to act in accordance with the Governing Body's policies

·        Pupil Achievement:

9. Regularly assess, record, and report on pupil progress, with appropriate actions taken to support and stretch pupil attainment;

10. Prepare, set and mark homework and internal test

·        Pastoral Duties, Faith and Formation:

11. Undertake duties as a form teacher;

12. Uphold the Catholic tradition of the school, integrating spiritual and moral dimensions into teaching practices;

13. Support the school’s liturgical life, including enabling pupils’ understanding of how faith and knowledge coexist, encouraging

·        Miscellaneous:

14. Comply with the Teachers’ Standards 2012, including regarding teaching, and personal and professional conduct;

15. Contribute to a vibrant and engaging department which foster interest in the subject, for example through displays of work in classrooms, visiting speakers, and planning School trips including abroad;

16. Maintain and develop further the links which the school has with external organisations to facilitate the learning of languages at LOS e.g. embassies;

17. Play an active role in the wider life of the school, including co-curricular activities;

18. Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues, reflecting the school’s commitment to partnership and community;

19. Model exemplary professional and moral conduct;

20. Work in cooperation with the designated SENCo and other staff who provide support for pupils with special educational needs;

 21. Work under the day-to-day direction of the appropriate Head of Department as regards the curriculum undertaking duties and responsibilities reasonably required or delegated by the appropriate;

22. Undertake such duties and responsibilities reasonably required or delegated by the Headteacher from time to time.

Staff Training & Professional Development

We believe that training and professional development for staff is of paramount importance, and we devote considerable time and energy to it. We offer a range of different training options designed to ensure that training is fully personalised to the individual member of staff.

Cycle-to-Work Scheme

The Academy participates in a cycle-to-work scheme to provide financial assistance to staff who wish to purchase a new bicycle and accessories. Staff choose a bike from a selection at over 2,000 retailers nationwide, hire it for an agreed length of time, then snap it up for a fraction of it's original value. Staff can save 25-39% and there is nothing to pay upfront. The payments are taken tax efficiently from the staff member’s salary over 12 months at which point Cyclescheme will contact the staff member regarding ownership options at the end of the Hire Agreement.

Annual Season Ticket Loans

Staff members can apply for an annual season ticket loan where the cost of the season ticket is spread over 10 monthly payments, interest free.

Employee Assistance Programme

Health Assured provides our staff with a confidential 24 hour support line to discuss issues relating to family, financial, stress and anxiety etc.

Tech Scheme

Techscheme lets you get the latest technology through your employer, choosing from a range of over 5000 products available from the Apple store or Currys PC World. Staff can spread the cost with payments from their salary across 12, 24 or 36 months and make National Insurance savings of up to 12%. Best of all - the staff member will own the products from the beginning and there’s no end of hire fee.

Health & Wellbeing

As part of our commitment to maintaining health and safety, and ensuring that reasonable adjustments are made for those that require it, new staff are invited to complete a health questionnaire before beginning their employment. The Academy also subscribes to an Occupational Health Referral scheme for existing staff members.

Use of Academy Gym

The Academy gym is available for staff to use after school free of charge. Induction sessions are conducted by a member of the PE team.

Annual Salaries

We offer competitive salaries for both Teaching and Support staff, (Inner London Weighting) including recruitment and retention allowances, in some cases.

Catering Facilities

Our catering facilities and canteen menus are designed to reflect all tastes and cultures. The Academy supports the Change 4 Life Healthy Lifestyle Campaign. Breakfast is available for staff to purchase in the mornings.

Pension Scheme Contributions

The Teachers Pension Scheme and the Local Government Pension Scheme are available for teaching and support staff respectively.  Both are generous final salary schemes and staff are enrolled automatically but have the option to opt out.  Contributions vary dependent on the employee’s income level.

Social Events

Staff social events are organised during the year, to ensure that staff members get the opportunity to unwind and enjoy a well-deserved break from work.
