Job overview

For the coming academic year, beginning August 2021, we are seeking to appoint a fully qualified, experienced, and highly motivated humanities teacher to teach Global Perspectives at Key Stage 3.

The successful candidate will take on overall responsibility for the teaching and development of Global Perspectives at KS3 (Years 7, 8 and 9), and this will form a large part of their timetable. In addition, depending on experience and interests, they will provide additional English Support/Teaching at KS3 and/or contribute to teaching General English Paper at AS Level. The successful candidate will be required to further develop the curriculum and associated resources for Global Perspectives at KS3, based upon, but not limited by Cambridge's "Lower Secondary Global Perspectives (1129)" course outline. The course has been established at LANNA for only one year at KS3, but is a popular subject, both at this level and at IGCSE.

As the teacher of Global Perspectives at Key Stage 3 you will join a friendly, supportive and dynamic team of six humanities teachers who between them teach Geography, History, Business, Enterprise, Sociology, and Global Perspectives at various levels from Key Stage 3 through to A Level (Global Perspectives is currently IGCSE only).

The school promotes high standards in all areas, not just academics. As such, you will be expected to take a full and active role in the life of the school; not only within your classroom and your own subject area. See the Co-curricular section of our website for details of some of the many school activities that take place, and that you would be expected to volunteer to be involved with in some ways.

We are seeking an individual who can help us to attain the highest educational standards whilst maintaining our friendly and caring atmosphere: something that all of us at Lanna value and cherish. You will join a team of teachers who are determined to make high achievement and enjoyment of school life a reality for all of our children. A strong preference is given to candidates who have shown a pattern of involvement in extra-curricular activities. Overseas teaching experience is preferred, but not required.

A copy of our LANNA Teacher Handbook is provided for you alongside this post announcement. Please take some time to study it if considering applying for this post; it includes a wealth of information about the school and how we work.

Applicants for teaching roles must hold, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree and full valid teaching certification from their home country e.g. PGCE or B.Ed.  We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, therefore all applicants must be willing to undergo rigorous child protection screening, including checks with past employers and criminal background checks. These checks are always made.

About Lanna International School Thailand

Lanna International School Thailand (Lanna) is one of the largest and longest established international schools in Chiang Mai. It was founded in 1993 to serve all families in the Thai and international communities of Chiang Mai by providing quality education in a coeducational, non-sectarian English-medium international school setting.

Lanna delivers a British style education based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales, adapted to more fully meet the needs of our environment and our school population of students from Early Years to Year 13. We prioritise the recruitment of highly qualified and experienced British and International staff.

The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum which is supported by a strong team of specialist teachers and assistants. External assessments and examinations are taken by students in Y4, 5, and 6 using ISA (International Schools Assessment), Y11 (IGCSE) and Y12/13 (AS/A Levels). These are administered by the Cambridge International Examinations and Edexcel Boards. Lanna is accredited by WASC, licensed by the Thai Ministry of Education, is a member of the East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS), and since 2005 has been a Cambridge University International Examination Centre.

From its beginning, Lanna has encouraged applications from students of diverse cultural, academic and linguistic backgrounds, and welcomes students from around thirty different nationalities, speaking seventeen languages. Emphasising internationalism at its very essence, Lanna believes that the diversity of its student body is one of its greatest strengths and helps to support the school’s mission to prepare its students to be responsible world citizens.

Lanna believes that our student-centred programme of study and extensive range of extracurricular activities provide our students with the challenges that enable them to reach their full potential academically, socially, emotionally and physically. In a school like Lanna with a rich cultural diversity, the values imparted are of great importance for later life. We seek to instill in our student's tolerance, dignity and respect for others. We strive to ensure that our students act both responsibly and independently whether at school or in the community outside. Lanna’s Schoolwide Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are the foundations of the type learners we aim for and are embedded throughout the teaching and learning in each year group.

Lanna International School has grown so much since its conception in 1993 with the opening of new Primary School Campus in 2018 and the new Early Years Complex opening in 2019. Catering for over 600 students, Lanna is a supportive and caring environment for all, where no challenge is too big, and no dream is beyond arm’s reach.
