About The English Modern School - Khor Campus

The English Modern School (EMS) was founded in 1991, financed, directed and privately owned by the Al Muftah Group, and independently managed by the Head of School.  The initial fundamental purpose of EMS was to create a school where both Qataris and expat children would learn English at a high standard preparing them for university education both in Qatar and abroad. EMS currently has three campuses and educates students from over 42 nationalities. EMS follows the Cambridge Programme from KG1 to Year 12 (EYFS, CIPP, IGCSE and AS Level).  The initial goal remains the same throughout its current three campuses, with an increasing emphasis on preparing students for the 21st Century.

In July of 2013, the MOE granted a KG1 through Year 12 license for the opening of the EMS campus in Al Khor.   One of the main reasons it opened was to relieve the pressure caused by the high numbers of students applying to the EMS Doha branch. There was also a need for an international school in Al Khor that caters to English speaking students outside of the Qatar Petroleum, RasGas, and Dolphin Gas employees.

EMS Khor served 242 students K – Yr 9 in its first year, and this year has increased to over 600 students in KG1 – Year 12.  We are moving closer to our licensed capacity of 650 and plan for moderate growth over the next few years.
