Job overview

This is a rare opportunity for a German language teacher to join our Christian independent boarding school starting April 2023. The main focus of our German language programme is teaching students how to communicate confidently in real-life situations. We are looking for someone who is an experienced and effective teacher of their subject as well as a genuine team player.

The school excels in academic and co-curricular subjects and provides excellent pastoral care to the students. The school is rated as “Good” by Ofsted, with “Outstanding” boarding provision. Each class has around 10 students who are eager to learn and have exceptionally good behaviour. Teaching staff benefit from the opportunity to focus on the preparation and teaching of their subject, with other staff focussing on administration.

Alongside our clear focus on excellence in academic subjects, we pride ourselves on a broad range of co-curricular activities from music, art and drama to sport and robotics – an impressive array of awards demonstrates our high levels of achievement in these areas.

The school has a strong Christian ethos and is set in a Christian community called Beech Grove Bruderhof. The majority of students live within the community. School instruction is complemented by supportive parents who take an active role in their children’s education. The school is non-selective and caters to a wide range of academic abilities.

Applicants must be committed to providing quality education and working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that all students receive the best possible experience during their time here.

We welcome applications from ECTs (NQTs) and more experienced qualified or unqualified teachers who are eager to teach enthusiastic learners in a focused environment.

Key aspects of the role

• Contribute to promoting and upholding the ethos and aims of the school.

• Develop, maintain, and prioritise excellent working relationships with students, teachers, and parents.

• Promote a welcoming and interesting place to learn, allowing all to develop their skills and potential, embracing different styles and personalities.

• Differentiate and tailor teaching for different learning styles and capabilities in the classroom.

• Actively develop and enhance subject knowledge, taking advantage of all opportunities to do so.

• Plan and prepare high-quality schemes of work, create and deliver engaging lessons within the context of the school’s curricular framework.

• Provide regular and high-quality marking and feedback to students, within the framework set by the school.

• Use regular assessment to set targets for students, monitor progress and support gaps in their understanding.

• Ensure the regular setting and consistent completion of homework/independent learning.

Person Specification

• Evidence of being, or having the clear potential to be, an outstanding teacher.

• Having effective classroom management skills, creating a positive learning environment.

• Effective engagement with external partners (e.g., subject associations, exam boards, awarding bodies).

• A desire to develop new ideas and create opportunities for our students.

• Maintaining a clear vision, staying positive, and focusing on key priorities.

• Genuine passion and belief in the potential of every student.

• Strategic thinking and the potential to adopt an entrepreneurial approach to the role.

• Salary: £27,000 - £42,000 in line with qualifications and experience.

• No accommodation is available.

• Free school places for teachers’ children may be available subject to the normal application process.

• The schools’ teaching hours, including co-curricular, are from 8am until 5pm.

• The school has its own holiday pattern; half term and end of term holidays are only taken at Easter and Christmas.

• The school year ends in the first week of June.

• Summer holidays begin the second week of June until the end of August. There may be some requirements for INSET and preparation during this time.

• Some additional holidays will be notified throughout the year.

• Proposed timeline for our sift and interview process:

  • The closing date for applications is 9 am on Monday 9th January 2023.
