About Inner Sydney Montessori School - Balmain Campus

Inner Sydney Montessori School is an independent Pre-school to Year 6, operating according to the philosophy and principles of Dr Maria Montessori who believed children have a natural love of learning and experience great exhilaration and satisfaction if allowed to complete tasks that they have freely chosen. The school, that had its beginnings in 1981, commenced in its current form in 2009 after a series of expansion and relocation events. Today it is Sydney’s largest Montessori School, operating 7 primary and 5 pre-school classes across two campuses in the Sydney suburbs of Balmain and Lilyfield with a total student enrolment of 292.

Principal

 Mrs Zoe Ezzard

Facilities

The school comprises campuses that abound in a wide range of exceptional, modern facilities and teaching and learning resources. The first campus comprises three pre-primary classes and seven primary classes and is located in Balmain. The classrooms here overlook leafy play areas and are large, bright and air-conditioned. Nearby Punch Park is utilised for lunchtime play and sport activities. The second campus At Lilyfield is comprised two pre-primary classes that operate in spacious air-conditioned classrooms that overlook a playground and a permaculture garden.

Curriculum

The Montessori curriculum does not impose a limitation on the student’s learning. From 0-6 years the students, being tactile learners, may explore any part of their world they are drawn to, whilst from 6-12 years, imaginations and their curiosities extend beyond their world to their universe. The Montessori curriculum interprets all subjects and concepts taught within the Australian Curriculum and also extends the children beyond these concepts.

School ethos

Inner Sydney Montessori School is an authentic Montessori community where students are inspired as learners to grow into peaceful, influential and self-reliant young people who create a better world.
