The role is varied, and you will be required to have multiple trade skills, be willing to work as part of a team and provide a high standard of maintenance, ensuring that the school is fit for purpose, safe, clean, and pleasant for students, staff and visitors.

 

 

Main Duties

Main duties of the role include the day-to-day completion of reactive, planned preventative works as well as assisting in a range of duties related to minor works and some larger projects.

You will also have the ability to work effectively on your own initiative as well as in collaboration with other members of the team, assisting as and when required including the moving of furniture, rubbish, etc.

You will need to have good IT skills including all Microsoft Office applications.

Ensuring that all departmental areas are always kept clean and tidy, and that tools/equipment are serviceable and stored safely.

A flexible approach to the role will be needed as participating in the call-out rota is also expected and some weekend/evening work will be required.

 

 

Person specification

ESSENTIAL

·        Trade qualification or relevant experience in either electrics, plumbing or carpentry.

·        Full UK Driving Licence.

·        Health and Safety Awareness.

·        Experience in general maintenance or other maintenance responsibilities.

·        Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with colleagues and contractors.

·        Ability to understand complex written and oral instructions.

·        A team player as well as self-motivated with an ability to use own initiative.

·        Ability to work in a planned and managed way.

·        PC literate (Microsoft Office Packages).

·        A dedicated approach to problem solving.

·        To be part of the emergency call out rota and participate in all department activities such as open mornings, and evening productions.

Hours of Work 

This is a full-time appointment involving a 37.5-hour working week. Your normal hours of work will be as agreed from time to time with the Maintenance and Facilities Manager. In the first instance, your working hours will be Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, with an hour for lunch.

On occasion you might be required to work for periods at evenings or weekends eg. to ensure the smooth running of Parents’ Evenings or Open Days or possibly to manage the locking/ unlocking and alarms of buildings out of hours.

Given the nature of your responsibilities, you may also be called upon to respond to emergencies that arise out of your normal working hours in the evening or at the weekend. In both of these last instances, you would be entitled, by agreement with the Maintenance and Facilities Manager, to take time-off in lieu on a 1:1 basis.

 

 

Holidays

The post carries an entitlement of 35 days holiday a year including statutory and bank holidays.

Given the need to schedule major refurbishing, repair, and maintenance work out of term-time when the school buildings are not in daily use by students and staff, you should expect to have to work through much of the school holiday periods.

In all cases, holiday dates must be agreed in advance with the Maintenance and Facilities Manager and must be no longer than 10 consecutive working days without the express permission of the Director of Operations.

THE SCHOOL

d’Overbroeck’s is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in Oxford for students aged 11 – 18. The school roll currently stands at around 750, and this is set to grow in the coming years.

Founded in 1977, initially as a Sixth Form, d’Overbroeck’s has maintained its founding values throughout its growth.

d’Overbroeck’s consists of three sections:

Years 7-11 – 200 students; currently all day students although open to boarders from next year. Based at Leckford Place, OX2 6HX.

Sixth Form – 440 students; a mixture of day and boarding. Domestic and international. Based at a purpose-built site at 333 Banbury Road.

The International School – around 125 international students who are all boarders, across years 9-11.
