Job overview

We are looking to appoint an administrator to provide maternity cover. This is a fixed term position for up to 12 months starting 8th January 2018. You will be expected to support the Director of Music in the day to day running of our large and busy music department. 

The person we are seeking will have a wide range of responsibilities including:

- liaising with music teachers, peripatetic teachers, students and parents 

- keeping accurate records of lessons given and ensemble registers 

- monitoring the department’s budget and expenditure

-  maintaining databases of instruments and music

- general administrative duties e.g ordering stationery, typing documents 

Our ideal candidate will have excellent organisational skills, a confident and assured communication style, and experience of using IT to achieve efficient working practices. Experience of using music programmes such as Music Manager would be an advantage.

The post is for 5 days per week working 08.00 to 15.30 including a 30 minutes lunch break. It is for term time only (35 weeks a year) plus 2 weeks to be worked during vacation periods, one of which should be the week before the start of autumn term.

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1000 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.

We are an ambitious community. This summer, 87% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 37% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 53%. This is 20% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic outcomes in the country. The recent ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”

We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next 3-4 years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both areas of traditional strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in last year’s Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.

Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.
