Job overview

Teacher of Music MPS / UPS (Outer London) – Part-time

1 Year fixed term contract (to be reviewed)

Required September 2019

We are looking for a creative, passionate, committed and dynamic professional to join our vibrant, busy and highly successful Music department.

At key stage 3, all students in Years 7, 8 and 9 study music for an hour each week.  We focus on developing students’ singing, instrumental, musical leadership, composing, listening, and appraising skills through the curriculum, which includes schemes of work on Samba Drumming, The BBC Ten Pieces, ‘Musical Futures’-style ensemble work, Song-writing and many others.

The department has a very inclusive and developmental approach to teaching music and constantly seeks to improve and refine what we offer to students across the school.

The department is very well-equipped, with imacs running Sibelius and Logic in each of the three classrooms, as well as nine practice rooms and a wide range of western and non-western instruments and recording equipment.  We work closely with Redbridge Music Service, who provide instrumental and vocal tuition to many of our students in and outside of school.  A wide variety of popular extra-curricular activities take place in the department on a weekly basis, including several choirs, a wind band, jazz band, steel pan group, brass group, orchestra and string orchestra.  We also work closely with the drama and dance departments and have staged musicals such as ‘Guys and Dolls’ and ‘Oliver’ in recent years.  There are several major concerts each year, taking place in our purpose-built theatre and featuring many ensembles, bands and soloists from the school.

This post would suit an experienced Music teacher. It offers an outstanding opportunity for the right individual to make a positive difference in a thriving and successful community school.

Wanstead High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share in this commitment.  This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

For an application form and further information log on to our website http://www.wansteadhigh.co.uk/The-School/Vacancies/.  Alternatively, contact the school by e-mail s.axtell@wansteadhigh.co.uk. The closing date for this post is Monday 24 June 2019 @ 12 Noon. Interview may take place before the closing date.
