Music Teacher – IB MYP (Part-time)

ISBerne is a dynamic, friendly and thriving school located close to the Swiss Capital Berne. ISBerne aims for all students to be reflective and responsible life-long learners who are active global citizens. The school ethos is based on the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and advocates a constructivist approach to teaching and learning.

ISBerne is an authorized IB World school, offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP, ages 3-11), Middle Years Programme (MYP, ages 11-16) and Diploma Programme (DP, ages 16-18).

The International School of Berne was founded in October 1961. In April 2017, the school moved to a modern and spacious purpose-built campus which includes three brand new state-of-the-art science laboratories with a dedicated prep room, a big central library, subject dedicated classrooms and a large double gym.

ISBerne currently has an enrollment of 330 students representing around 50 nationalities, with over 60 dedicated faculty and administration staff.

The Position

ISBerne seeks to appoint a teacher of MYP Music with the possibility of teaching Music to upper PYP classes. Applicants must have experience in teaching Music to students aged 9 – 16 and be excited by the challenge of contributing to curriculum development.

The successful applicant will be an accomplished teacher with experience, enthusiasm and a passion for teaching which will inspire our students. S/he will also understand the importance of being part of a department team and the wider faculty.

Required

  • A desire to contribute to and foster a positive IB learning community
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience
  • Outstanding classroom practitioner and experience with external exam preparation
  • Minimum of two years IB experience MYP
  • Appropriate degree and teaching qualification


Desired

  • An appreciation of working in a small school environment
  • Experience working in a European international school environment
  • EAL experience
  • EU Passport

About International School of Berne

The International School of Berne is a day school accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. It provides an education in English for children of over 50 nationalities.

ISBerne is authorised to offer three International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes: the Primary Years Programme (ages 3–11), the Middle Years Programme (ages 11–16) and the Diploma Programme (ages 16–19).

ISBerne offers holistic international education which promotes intercultural understanding and respect. The curriculum is broad and balanced, including a choice of German or French, as well as the arts, sciences, individuals and societies, mathematics, and P.E. Grade 5 students complete their Primary education with an Exhibition. The Middle Years Programme students culminate their educational programme with a Personal Project in Grade 10. The IB Diploma programme in Grades 11 and 12 is a comprehensive and rigorous two-year curriculum which prepares students for university entrance. Students choose six IB Diploma subjects to study, write an Extended Essay, follow a Theory of Knowledge Course, and complete a Community, Service and Action Programme.

The school has an English as an Additional Language programme, a Learning Support programme and a College Guidance Programme. 

ISBerne offers ice skating and skiing/snowboarding Fridays during the winter months, as well as curriculum-related trips for all grades. After-school activities and sports coaching are also offered.

The school is located in a purpose built facility in the suburb of Gümligen, 15 minutes from the centre of Berne and easily reachable by car and public transport.
